Hello and welcome to

Tweed Valley Guinea pig shelter is the newest branch of the Australian Cavy Sanctuary and is entirely not-for-profit so rest assured all money recieved for adopted piggies is directed straight back into the shelter to buy food, bedding, vet care and housing.
Please consider adoption over other methods of purchasing a Guinea Pig as there are 1000's in shelters just like mine waiting for a loving and caring home.
All the piggies in my care are bathed, wormed, nails clipped, treated for mites and coccidiosis...as well as sexed correctly.
When considering a Guinea Pig, make sure that it is compatible with the other animals in your family and if there are small children ...then supervision is a must at all times ....as Guinea pigs have little bones that can easily get broken from a small fall or from being held too tight.
Your Piggie will love being with you as often as possible, so remember to givelots ofcuddles...they can even be trained....but I am yet to do this!!
Diet is extremely important as Guinea Pigs like Humans cannot store vitamin C. So they must get this in their diet daily in the form of fresh veggies.
( I only serve to my piggies what I would put on the table for my family )
Guinea Pigs are one of the gentlest creatures and also one of a few that do not have an environmental impact on the world. As they are a prey animal care must be taken to make sure they are safe from dogs, cats, snakes and birds of prey.
One very important factor when adopting a guinea pig is their hutch.....we recommend that for 2 piggies 120cm x 60cm minimum and 60 x 60 for every piggie after that.....Also their hutch must not have wire on the bottom ( if it does it needs to be covered with something like corflute ). The reason for this is the wire can and will cause a very painful condition called bumble foot which can lead to eventually death if untreated.....Imaging walking on your feet with them covered in ulcers!!!!!
Please enjoy my site and email me if you have any question regarding adoption, surrender, or any aspects of guinea pig health, diet or housing.
